Project – Energy management systems workshop for bulk electricity users.

About the Client – Kahramaa are the state electricity utility in Qatar.

Client Needs – Qatar faces many challenges in terms of rising energy consumption, climate change and economic challenges due to downward pressures in international oil & gas markets as well as the strain placed on national budgets due to a dependence on state energy subsidies for national consumers. Kahramaa run a number of energy conservation initiatives including awareness campaigns such as Tarsheed. Kahramaa were very keen to extend similar initiatives to large bulk energy users, the top 100 accounting for 38% of total electricity consumption in Qatar.

What Energy Services Did – Energy Services, in collaboration with our partner, developed and presented the workshop content to include a range of presentations from energy management basics to international best practice ISO 50001. Detailed real world case studies were also presented from a range of industries including industrial & manufacturing, oil & gas, healthcare and commercial organisations. The theme of the workshop was framed on the need for a more strategic, transformative approach to energy management in Qatar and the important role bulk electricity users have in leading this transformation.

The Results –

  • Kahramaa have adopted the requirement for bulk users to have an energy management system compliant with ISO 50001 as part of their bulk user regulations.
  • Bulk users now aware of the importance of and benefits associated with a strategic and systematic best practice approach to energy management.
